VoIP

Monday, August 20th, 2007

combuild.jpgVoIP (phone over internet) has become very popular in the last few years. It started out with a lot of small start-up companies. They offered a great service at a decent price and quickly attracted a large customer base. But as things have worked in the past, things work today.

In the past year internet service providers have began to shift a lot of their focus towards voice over internet protocol also. Companies like Comcast can easily offer a great VoIP service over their own cable lines, which many people prefer.

These big companies, being able to focus so many of their resources in advertising their VoIP services make it real difficult for smaller VoIP only companies to stay afloat. Comcast could have definitely been a key factor in the fall of SunRocket and is a major cause to the fact that Vonage is also hurting.

In fact, Comcast has recently passed up Vonage as the company with the most subscriber lines. With plans like Comcast’s “Triple Play” it’s hard to go anywhere else.

Only time will tell if these smaller VoIP specified companies will be able to keep competing with the big dogs, but one thing is for sure, it will be a tough ride.

Comcast Cable Speeds

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

comcast-black.jpgIt seemed like not too long ago when the internet was just beginning to widely and publicly emerge. Most of us remember the days when dial-up was the best thing available. And who could forget the 56k modem. It’s not that we’re all old, it just simply wasn’t that long ago. Now there are several companies out there coming up with all kinds of new offers.

We have higher grades of dial up. There’s DSL. And then there’s the internet speed demon… Cable. Cable offers the fastest connection speed available and it doesn’t matter how far you are from the provider’s server, your connection speed will be the same. With advancing technology it has and continues to become more important to have higher download speeds.

Comcast has continually stepped up to the plate to make these increasing demands a reality. Comcast cable speeds have constantly increased over the last few years. Right now Comcast offers cable internet connections of up to 16Mbps. In many areas they offer special features such as home networking of up to 5 computers on your service line, free virus scan and parental controls, up to seven e-mail accounts and more.

Comcast has also won many awards in the past few years including the CompUSA Vender of the Year award in 2005 and the #1 rated ISP by San Jose Mercury News.

Comcast is offering some great promotions right now to help everybody feel the benefits of an affordable, reliable, and fast connection. You can check out a few of these promotions here. Now is a great time to take advantage of cable. You’ve waited this long. Why wait any longer?

Comcast Cable Internet $19.99

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

comcast.gifRight now Comcast is offering a very high speed cable connection at a very affordable price. Right now, Comcast is offering a cable connection of up to 8.0 Mbps for only $19.99 for the first 6 months. This is about half the price of an average cable connection and comes with the same features and reliability. This offer also comes with a free cable modem and wireless router to get started. On top of all that it comes with free digital music and videos and to top it all off $125 cash back. This is a fantastic value.

For those who don’t have cable internet, cable TV, or digital phone service, Comcast is also making another offer. It’s called “Comcast Triple Play” and has turned out to be a very popular promotion. The idea behind the Triple Play is that each of the three services (TV, Internet, and Phone) are offered at $33/each per month or $99 per month for all. This package deal is a great value. If you order triple play right now, you can get $335 in rebates. It also comes with a free cable modem, wireless router, and multimedia package.

Both of these promotions are great. If you have none of these services as of now, the “Triple Play” is tough to beat. If the only thing lacking is a better internet connection, the $19.99 promotion is the best option. Either way you decide to go, Comcast is there offering superb service at a great price.

Comcast Knocks Vonage Out Of Number 1 Spot

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

everlast-boxing-international-professional-fight-gloves.jpgAfter holding a commanding lead for a considerable amount of time as the number 1 VoIP service with more subscriber lines than any other company, Vonage was recently Knocked out of this position. Comcast recently has taken control of this title with 2.4 million subscriber line. Vonage claims about 2.3 million.

After adding 1.2 million lines in 2006, Vonage slowed down to 166,000 new lines in the first quarter of 2007. While Vonage’s sales were leveling out in the first quarter, Comcast’s sales were climbing.

Vonage offers phone calls over the internet, but Comcast uses their own cable lines to complete calls. Due to this, the fact that Comcast has taken over several major cities since the end of their partnership with Time Warner is probably a big factor in the large increase of sales. Another idea that has been passed around is that Comcast’s VoIP success was a large factor in SunRockets fall.

With all the new competition out there, it looks like to be in the VoIP industry in the future, a company will have to offer a great service at a great price and be a leading competitor. The more competition that comes along, the better service each company will have to offer, a concept that Comcast understands well.comcast21.jpgvonagelogo.jpg

Comcast Interview

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

Hey guys, I was looking a little more into the new Comcast deal with Houston and found an interesting article. It’s from Houston’s local paper.

One of the things that really caught my eye was what Comcast is calling “Wideband”. In the interview they were asked what consumers could look forward to in the future. Wideband was the answer. It’s a much faster internet connection . Faster than DSL. They tested by it downloading a 4 gigabit file, which only took 3.5 minutes. It took 4 hours with DSL.

When I read this article it fascinated me, but I couldn’t find anything else on “Wideband” anywhere else. Hopefully this will be made available soon.

New Cable Service Provider for Houston

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

comcastvan.jpgThis week a long partnership between Time Warner and Comcast came to an end. This means quite a large change for Houston residents. The enormous city, currently using Time Warner, will make a huge change to Comcast service. That’s right. Time Warner is out, and Comcast is in. This will mean quite a few changes to the local cable service, but Comcast is promising, mostly convenient changes. For example, price rates will not go up, and in some cases even go down. Comcast has commented that many users will have access to new TV channels and improved On-Demand service. In July, the internet service will switch over. The largest inconvenience will be the fact that users will have to changer their e-mail addresses. The old Time Warner suffix will be phased out and users will have to use addresses ending in “comcast.com”. All in all, Comcast has invested over $200 million to upgrade Houston’s network and the transition is expected to be smooth.
